Quality inspection is the backbone of any successful footwear sourcing programme. When buying from India, where production often spans multiple factories and suppliers, having structured quality checkpoints is essential.
The inspection process typically covers five critical stages: material verification, pilot production review, in-line checks during bulk production, pre-shipment inspection, and final audit before container loading.
Material verification ensures that leather grades, colours, and textures match approved standards before cutting begins. This single step can prevent the majority of downstream quality issues.
During pilot production, a small batch is produced to validate construction, fit, and finishing. This is the last opportunity to make corrections before bulk production starts.
In-line checks during bulk production monitor stitching consistency, adhesion quality, sole attachment, and finishing standards. Catching defects at this stage is far less costly than discovering them at final inspection.
Pre-shipment inspection uses AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) sampling to evaluate the finished lot. A typical AQL 2.5 inspection for footwear covers appearance, construction, measurements, and packaging.
Source India manages this entire inspection workflow for overseas buyers, providing structured reports at each stage so decisions are informed and timely.
